SLAUGHTERHOUSE LICENSE

Environmental Protection License Slaughterhouse License Waste Collection Environment & Water

Introduction

A license issued for cow slaughterhouses under the powers vested in the Pradeshiya Sabha to regulate the places where animals are slaughtered to provide meat for public consumption, the surrounding environment, and the health and safety of the meat offered for sale.

 

  • The issuance of this license can be divided into two stages
    1. The initial license
    2. Annual renewal of the license thereafter.

 

  • A person may apply for a temporary permit to slaughter animals for meat solely for the purpose of a particular festival or carnival. Such permit shall be valid only for the period for which it is issued.

Eligibility

  • A person intending to operate a slaughterhouse for meat within the jurisdiction of the Pradeshiya Sabha may apply for a permit in the first instance and for renewal of the permit for subsequent years in accordance with these by-laws.
  • The design of the slaughterhouse shall be in accordance with the specifications of a plan prescribed by the General Assembly of the Local Government Institution.
  • The slaughterhouse shall be constructed with a building plan and a construction permit approved by the Pradeshiya Sabha and a certificate of conformity shall be obtained.
  • The environmental protection permit for a cow slaughterhouse shall be obtained (in accordance with the regulations made under the North Western Province Environmental Charter No. 1685/11 dated 31/12/2010)

Fees

  • Under Section 149 of the Pradeshiya Sabha Act, a permit fee shall be paid by the Pradeshiya Sabha from time to time.
  • The emergency permit fee and/or exhibition stall fee as determined by the Pradeshiya Sabha from time to time shall be paid in the manner specified in Section 15 of the Slaughterhouse By-laws.
